Unable to save get the Eraser brush I created...

Hello, new to the Forum but not to PS CS3 which I've been using for a while now. I thought it'd be an easy task to crate a new Eraser brush by simply amending an existing one and somehow saving it. How wrong I was.

brush 1 2.jpg

The attached picture shows the Eraser brush I want to amend as Brush 1 and how I want it to be as Brush 2.
Brush 2 was done simply by going into the Brush Tip Shape dialogue and making a 90° angle adjustment.
Problem is I can't reach a point where the created brush is saved in my Brush Picker with the amendment still in place.
If I select Brush 1, choose 'Create a new brush', rename it Brush 2 and then try to amend it via the Brush Tip Shape I cannot as, whilst Brush 2 does appear in the Brush Picker and Brush Presets, it doesn't appear in the Brush Tip Shape gallery.
If I amend Brush 1 via the Brush Tip Shape gallery, choose 'Create a new brush' and rename it Brush 2 that doesn't work either as the created brush ignores the amendment.
Despite approaching the problem a number of ways, I can't reach a point where I can have an amended Brush 1 created as Brush 2 in my Brush Presets.

Can any kind soul please help? Thanks in advance.

I'm not certain from your post if you've tried this or not, so forgive me if I misunderstand. But it looks like what you want to do is actually make a NEW brush. Make a new file with a white background. Grab your original horizontal brush, go ahead and rotate it 90°. Select Black for your color and click the brush in your work area to create a black version of your brush shape. Now simply select EDIT>Define Brush Preset, name your brush and presto! (Be sure to save your custom brushes as a backup).
