    Place Subject onto Different Background

Happy to upload the .psd for this for reference purposes btw. Let me know.

Need some critique on a wallpaper

I wasn't saying to replicate the movie poster, I was showing an example of the type of background effect I meant. The background details are knocked back into the background, whereas the main character becomes more of a focal point. Overall it's a more limited color palette, and more focused...

Need some critique on a wallpaper

Currently the background is too distracting. You need to think about what the focus should be. Right now, the unrealistic scene of purple gradient, mountains and building is sucking up a lot of the attention, when I'd prefer to see more given to Todd Helton, given the nature of the project. (I...

    Place Subject onto Different Background

Yup, that's why the face is more in focus. I tweaked a little more to bring the flowers at the dog's feet more into focus, as they were too out of focus to be consistent with the dog's face, but I wanted to keep the facial sharpness as it's the focal point of this image:

    Place Subject onto Different Background

It is, it's more the backs of his ears and back that start moving more into the out of focus region. Also, the flowers in line with his face aren't fully in focus, they're slightly out. If you compare them to the flower in line with the very bottom of the image, that's noticably sharper.

    Place Subject onto Different Background

I think the main issue here is that the depth of field is hard to work with in the daisy image. The field only starts coming into focus right at the bottom of the image, so technically the dog wouldn't be quite in focus. Here's an example after doing some of the steps from my previous post...

    Place Subject onto Different Background

Glad to hear you figured this out. A few more quick tips to help the dog fit the scene well: 1. Spend some time color correcting both dog/field images slightly to get them better matched 2. Some of the color from the field will naturally reflect onto the surface of the dog. This is VERY...

    Tutorial 3D text

Just checking, do you have the software to create 3D text (Photoshop Extended, or 3D Software)?

adding a background image to another shape

Yup, the selection obviously needs a good amount of time spending on it. Told you I was in a rush :D I actually quite like the flatter version, but Reeksy was asking about the bevel style effect and how to create it.

adding a background image to another shape

Ok really bad at leaving stuff unfinished haha. Here's my take. It's pretty rough in terms of the selection, but hopefully shows what I meant about capturing the depth and rounded edges Reeksy was talking about. I overlaid the puzzle piece as the top layer, but clipped it to only overlay the...

adding a background image to another shape

Alternatively, you may be able to duplicate the puzzle piece layer and position it as the top layer. Then play around with layer blend modes/opacities so that it doesn't obscure your colored in layer, but will make some of the indents, 3D structure and lighting of the puzzle piece more visible.

adding a background image to another shape

I would go with Hoogle's technique, then do the following: 1. Ensure your selection of the puzzle piece face is still active 2. Create a new top layer, and fill the selection with any color 3. Set this new layer's fill opacity to 0%, but keep the main layer opacity at 100% 4. Play around with...
