I am supposed to design a mockup web page for a school project.. This is what I've came up with so far.

Any ideas on where to place the social media icons ?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated ~

I would put them over to the right on the nav bar. You could do bottom corners but I think that would mess up the design which is simple and open right now.

I would shorten your message up top and proofread it. Specialises is not correct. The text takes up too much space, is larger than necessary, and is too close to the borders. The same goes for the logo. Why have it so close to the left border? White space, white space (even if it isn't "white"). The copyright statement is also too large; things like that are meant to be unobtrusive.

Looks like you're having fun though, so keep up the good work.

Draft3-2.png Here's the edited version. I added some additional text at the footer. Will the difference in fonts look weird ?

address is obviously just for practice, but it seems a little incomplete for a website, even if it's advertised locally. Just saying.

OTOH, looks much better IMO. Still something troubling me about that footer. Imbalanced. Lots of large text and lines of text from middle to far right. Very little on left. What city, county, whatever designation is this locate? I'd suggest spreading it out more. Maybe I can just show you what I mean for the text if I have the details. Like I said, it's just my take.

Your Logo.... EMPHASIZE on it. A different text color , shadow.... probably re-think your logo. The chick chef doesn't match your services.

As for your text.... go straight to the point. FORGOT YOUR LUNCH? ... NO TIME FOR LUNCH? ... HAVE IT ANY TIME YOU WANT....

Choose a darker color for your menu text.

just my two cents....

Don't know if I agree about the chick though. Maybe if you gave him crinkly brown edges, made him white with a yellow yolk-like center . . . or is that too breakfasty?

here's a new chickie

The social links are still looking clumsy there. I would put them on the right side of the bottom. Also why is there an address, phone number, email address AND a link to a contact page. Personally, I like to have contact email forms and addresses as a drop-down feature of my navigation bars, so they can be shown on all pages.

I agree and smaller too. Things for some reason often look smaller on the screen until you view them in a browser.

That's a phone number? I wondered what it was . . . Good ideas.

@ dv8_fx : Haha you've got a point there. Will attempt to make the text short and sweet.

@ ib_Clare : Will take into account about the fonts in the footer area. LOL @ the crinkly chick =P

@ sprucemagoo1 : Hmm does the impact of the social media icons diminish if I place it at the bottom ? I will try implementing via javascript some optional dropdown bar for the contacts when I code the actual site =D

You like my fried egg, sunny side up chick? Ha ha ha.

I don't think a lower location is a problem. I've seen that on quite a few sites and ads. People look for it routinely now.

You still have contact info in the bar! Why would you then also have a contact us page?

I have almost forgoten about javascript now, especialy for dropdown menus. You can do it easier in css, so no extra pages of code, even the mail form code is .PHP, loads of info on how to do it by Googling.

Okay, this is sorta finalised. Comments please =D .

The image is just a random image of a restaurant. I plan to implement a image slideshow of the restaurant in that space.

Is the usage of 3 different tones of blue alright ?

Well, the footer definitely looks better. However, on this home page, the "back to top" doesn't make sense since the page doesn't extend down but will probably just fill the screen. I don't know what you would replace it with. That would take a bit of thinking. But I agree that it's better not to have all the contact info since you have that link above.

I do think the footer would look better if you use the beige color. There isn't anything there that's needs emphasis and the blue is drawing the eye unnecessarily.

One more comment. The video screen is too big. It obscures the planks which are a rather nice backdrop.

You're probably hating us about now! Picky, picky, picky. But we want you to get that A+!

I like it Luzarin. Go get that A+ and don't listen to any more critiques. Just kidding. Yeah, you're going to get enough critique yet in class. But ... you'll be steeled to it after the grilling you got here!

I'm not 100% crazy about the line up of the text in the header, but that is nit picking. And you didn't like my fried egg chickie?

There are a lot of slideshow open source scripts out there, but the easiest one I have found to add to and edit, is the Nivo slider. Though instead of downloading it from their website, why not get an open-source website template with the slider in that looks and acts like how you want it to, and then copy the html, css, and jquery into your site. I'm not trying to suggest you don't already know this, I just don't know what gets taught in schools and colleges these days!

You can see what it looks like HERE!

@ ibclaire : Yeah, receiving grilling left and right in school  . Learnt and disagreed along the way haha ~ Gonna submit this final version .

@ sprucemagoo1 : looks very impressive (Y) . Will attempt to do it in due time ~

Oh yes, a very huge thanks to all of you people here. *Hats off *
