Hi,

I wonder if someone can help me, might be a stupid question for general Photoshop user, but I am new. ;-)Is there a way to increase the luminosity of a part of a picture only (back-lit image).
Sunset...then face towards the camera and all dark.

Thanks for your help!

there are two quick ways ;)

option A:
1. Image > Adjustments > Shadows/Highlights..
2. Increase Shadows slider

option B:
1. Filter > Camera Raw Filter..
2. Increase Blacks and/or Shadow sliders

PS. There are much more solutions, but I think those two are easiest and fastest ;)

Keep also in mind to duplicate the original layer and apply the solutions provided by @revnart on the duplicated layer.
Then use a layer mask to remove the parts not in need of change.

Also and in my experience, the back-lit face will have some noise when made lighter...

Thank you Revnart,
But this would effect the whole image. I was hoping to just alter a specific spot in the image.
But thank you anyway! Nice if you to try helping!
