Wallpaper from texture

This is a very basic idea of playing around with only a few elements, yet creating a very effective expression. I don't know where the idea came from, it just suddenly appeared.
What I have been trying to achieve is that the light/dark areas look somewhat realistic. As if someone was pointing at the planks with a flashlight. When I was happy with this I wanted to make something that contradicted the realistic look, and thought that an easy way of doing so was to make a text and frame it.
Anyway, I am very happy with the outcome.
What does the forum think?

I think the name in the middle blows it but the texture is cool

That's one way to look at it. If I removed the text all that would be left was a texture - meaning that I wouldn't actually have done anything in particular to make it a personal wallpaper. All it would be was a texture.

Do you have any other suggestions on what other things that could be in the image?

Simon, I think you fell a bit short of your intent to make the planks look as though there were a flashlight/torch shinning on the planks. Try shining a flashlight on a wall at night to see what I'm talking about.

There is certainly nothing wrong with what you made, it looks great! But your a little out there when you're talking about reality and contradicting it. A tree made from the planks would contradict reality, adding text to your great background does not.

So..............anything you do to your planked background is fine! It looks great just the way it is! As for making this a really cool wallpaper, I think Pauls suggestion of branding your logo into the planks is awesome! (he has his moments)

edit: A robotic Woodpecker pecking out a hole would challenge reality!

I disagree. The fact that the text is so obviously and intentionally not-blended into the picture creates, IMO, a kind of play between the realistic part (the planks) and the part added onto it (the text/shapes).

I have never tried creating something (e.g a bird/robot) from something else (the wood texture), and I have admit that I find it hard to imagine a great outcome.

Speaking of the flashlight effect I may have been a bit unclear in the description of my idea. A flashlight is not the right word to use, but more like the soft kind of light used when shooting an interview or photographing something 'static'. A soft, static light.

Simon, Let me try to explain what I'm talking about and if you still disagree with me then I'm fine with that. Not trying to aggravate you here! Which of these images contradicts reality?

Image 1. To a viewer, the text here exists completely outside reality! It's just a logo slapped onto a forest scene.

Image 2. This image mildly challenges the viewers concept of reality, and it also has a logo slapped on it!

The logo in this image contradicts reality.....

Hope this helps.
