Hi all,

I have a photo of a coloured slush drink in a clear plastic cup with a clear plastic dome lid shot on a white background similar to the one attached. I have to cut out the cup so that I can use it on various coloured backgrounds, my question is how do I make the background show through the clear parts of the lid?

1. Cut out the cup and place it on his own layer (use pen tool for accuracy)

2. Select the parts that need to be 'transparant' (again use pen tool) and place it on his own layer (CTRL+J)

3. Select the 'top' layer (CTRL+click on thumbnail)
4. Make the 'cup' layer active and press 'delete'.

5. Select the 'top' layer and reduce the opacity to 65 % (there are ways to do it with blend modes but I will stick to this one)

6. Place a background as bottom layer

You can still reduce or add transparacy of the 'top' layer until you're satisfied.
