First of all, not sure if "transparent" is the right term, but that's how the image seems to be, since you can see through another image.
I saw that a website header was made by placing pictures on top of other pictures.
For example, this picture has been made "transparent":

If you put a picture behind it, you can see the picture behind it like so:

I've put a yellow border around the picture that's behind, but as you can see, the pic on top with the laptop, is "transparent" enough to allow the other pic to be seen.
How is this transparent effect achieved?
