how to select an open path in Photoshop CS3?

I create a path (only 1 segment) with a pen tool, then right click it and select "make a selection".

As a result I get this annoying message "No pixels selected". Note: it perfectly works for a closed path

Does anyone know how to select an open path?

Thank you

Hey michael, you can do many things with an open path, unfortunately, you can not create a selection without closing that path.

In CS6, if you make a curved path without closing it, Ps will close the path for you! But you will get the same message if you try to make a selection from a straight path. I don't know if it's the same in CS3.

It’s weird that I cannot do such a simple thing. Ok. I should probably use some other tools. Thank you Sam!
