    Mercator Effects tutorial

Have a question about the mercator effects tut found here, http://photoshopgurus.info/intermediate/mercator/mercator-effects.shtml. Near the end of Step5 you're told to deselect. Step6 begins with creating a new layer, then filling the selection with white. I'm not understanding this. Step5...

    Transparent bkgrnd not so transparent

I'm sorry, I should have known that gif was the one to use. But is there a way to get rid of the jagged edges?

    Transparent bkgrnd not so transparent

Saving as gif doesn't look so good. See the jagged edges? EDIT: It does look like the transparency worked out though. WIth the gray background on my post no white is seen.

Gaussian, I don't believe I had that option. PS 5.5 here. wbis, ok with the jpeg, but what about the png? Should I use gif instead?

    Transparent bkgrnd not so transparent

Huh? Oh wait... The bottom pic is the psd, the top is the png. Whenever I save the psd to png/jpeg, the transparent background turns to a white background. Yup, I've starting out with a transparent background, as you can see in the bottom pic. I want the white space on the png to be...

    Transparent bkgrnd not so transparent

Having a problem in getting my .psd's to save to another file type (png and jpeg) and still keep the transparent background. I'm trying to use this as a sig file on another forum, but with their gray background, the white in the image really looks tacky. ;\

    How to replicate this...

Will rework without instructions. I think that I've done the pen portion of this tut some much I could do it blindfolded! :bustagut:

    How to replicate this...

Here ya go. Like I said, it needs a little tweaking, but it works for now. The text seems to be missing something. EDIT: Pardon me! I'm normally a very polite person. Much THANKS go to wbiss and Gaussian!

    How to replicate this...

OK, it's working now. Things that I had to do in PS 5.5 to get it to work: 1. Before starting with the shadow a deselect must be done. It never states that. 2. Turn off path must be used before the delete command will work. A BIG THANKS to both of you. As soon as I'm finished I'll post up...

    How to replicate this...

OK, this first shot is immediately after inversing BEFORE deleting the single time. The second image is after deleting after inverse and then deleting the four times after selecting layer 3.

    How to replicate this...

OK, I understand this as creating layer 3 first, then using the pen tool. When getting down to delete the black, the marching ants are around the black portion, hitting delete does nothing. I know I'm not dense, but this just isn't working.

    How to replicate this...

Last part of Step 8, Now hold CTRL and click on "layer 3" to select it, hit DELETE about 4 times to remove all the black, Do NOT lose the selection. When pressing Delete, the black does not disappear. I've reworked steps 7 & 8 about 10 times now, amking double-sure that I'm doing exactly what...

    How to replicate this...

Great! New problem. (Sorry) In Step 5 after inversing, it states to activate layer 2. Nowhere in this step or previous steps does it state to create a layer 2. Also, the steps that I'm following do not create a layer 2. I'm sure this is simple for y'all, but this just isn't working for me.

    How to replicate this...

OK, it's still doing the same thing. When I opened PS this morning I immediately went to Image>Mode. RGB Color was already selected. I checked this throughout the tut and it stayed that way, but the color still shows up as grayscale. :( Gaussian, the only difference in your settings to mine...
