Need to understand layer mask with selection copy paste

Copy and paste, then add a layer mask by clicking the layer mask icon at the bottom of the layers panel. Paint with black to conceal, white to reveal.

Multiple adjustment layers using the same selection

There is most always more than one way to accomplish the same task in Photoshop. This is just one of them, you could also use layer masks if you want to use the same layer. Make a selection, with the selection active add an adjustment layer and the mask will match the selection. Copy the...

    wet paint/plastic effect

It isn't sarcasm. Obviously you already know how to make a selection, and how to put the selection on it's own layer and how to add a layer effect. Thus the simplest and fastest way to find out if that will give you the desired result, is to just do it and see for yourself. Had you said you...

    wet paint/plastic effect

Why don't you try it and see? The best way to learn Photoshop is by using it and experimenting.

    Edits, face swaps, and Nazis

I thought this was a Photoshop site, thus not a place for political commentary. Obviously, I was wrong.

    Edits, face swaps, and Nazis

It has nothing to do with moral judgement, it's a matter of recognizing insulting political commentary in visual form. But anything goes as long as it's not nudity of porn? If someone requested that an African American's face be placed on a monkey, would that be allowed since it isn't nudity or...

Yeah, I still look in from time to time and try to assist people who are actually trying to learn how to use Photoshop. Unfortunately the site has become mostly a free work site. Nice to hear from you...

    Newbie looking for some direction

I appears that the leaf is isolated on it's own layer, all you need is Edit-Stroke.

    importing files

Short answer is no, it will no longer be a vector file when you bring it into Photoshop. Photoshop is a raster program. The only way is to import as paths, alter them, fill, etc., then save as a SVG or PDF.

    importing files

Thanks for pointing that out I forgot about SVG, being an old Photoshop CS6 user it's not an option for me. Thus when I need vector I use Illustrator.

    importing files

The first thing you need to understand is that Photoshop is a raster based program and regardless of what you put into it, it will display it as raster. Secondly while there are vector tools in Photoshop (shapes, paths, vector masks), the only way you can save as a vector is in a PDF file...

Changing multiple duplicated layers at once

The user would be better off using Illustrator for this type of work. In Illustrator you would create a symbol for the smoke detectors. If required you can change all instances of the symbol by simply editing the main symbol.

Changing multiple duplicated layers at once

I gave this some thought and the best solution I can think of is make a circle and fill with white, then stroke it with red. Add the text in red, rasterize and combine the two layers. Transform the resulting image into the correct size to cover the existing SD circles. Select the new "HD...

I am a traditional artist transitioning to digital art.

When I taught Photoshop one of the biggest questions I got was, when should I use a new layer? My answer was and still is, almost always. You can merge layers later if you wish, but once done they can seldom be easily separated. If you don't already, it's a good idea to learn about the use of...

    Specific Cutting a background out

Make a selection of the man with the Quick Selection tool. Don't worry about getting all of the shoes. Use the selection to make a mask and manually paint with white to get the parts of the shoes that you may have missed. Paint with black to cover any parts you don't want. (black conceals, white...

Please need help with luminosity masks

For masks, white reveals, black conceals. Grey will yield semi-transparency. If you want the sky to show, paint the mask with white.
