Photoshop displaying "Out of Memory" popup

I'm not getting much useful in the Photoshop forum. Hopefully, someone here will have some ideas. Two PCs, same problem. Desktop is a normal PC, Windows 10 Pro, 32GB of memory, AMD 5700XT 8GB, SSDs for everything. A couple terabytes of space available on scratch disks. The GPU has “Anti-Alias...

Photoshop displaying "Out of Memory" popup

Before I waste people's time with a long entry (that's getting nothing in the Adobe Photoshop forum), is there any point asking in this forum about Photoshop saying its out of memory when doing content-aware fill during pano creation?

Problem with Smart Object and Content-Aware fill

Thanks John. Yeah, I hit that sort-of solution last night. I don't LIKE it, but it's there. Create smart object. Go into ACR and lower exposure and shove shadows all the way up. Create new layer, do content aware for cleanup. So far things look OK. Decide I ALSO want to do...

Problem with Smart Object and Content-Aware fill

I recently ran into a problem where I created a Smart Object, applied a Camera Raw Filter, mad adjustments (all perfectly normal), then did some clean up in Content Aware fill using layers to continue the non-destructive workflow. During subsequent processing, as the image evolved, I went back...

Dragging Mask to trash can doesn't delete?

IamSam, thank you for your feedback. I'm certain you have far more credence here than do I, but my OPINION stands. NOT that the confirmation EXISTS, but that the behavior is inconsistent (dragging to the trash can forces confirmation but right-clicking and dealing with a menu (the "more...

Dragging Mask to trash can doesn't delete?

Personally, as far as I'm concerned this is a BUG. It should work the OTHER way. Dragging to the trash means delete it. Period. Fiddling with the context menu SHOULD be the one that gets the dopey dialog popup. Fortunately, the "fix" is pretty simple, though annoying 'cause you have to...

Dragging Mask to trash can doesn't delete?

Yes, I COULD have inverted the mask. I was doing this for some people that are learning about layers and masks, so it was done backwards on purpose to show ways to fix it... Deleting and recreating was one. In this case it sounds like I've turned OFF the confirmation and "Apply" is the...

Dragging Mask to trash can doesn't delete?

Windows 10 Pro, lots of everything. Photoshop 22.1 I have 2 layers with a selection of part of the top layer, then create a layer mask so part of the bottom layer shows through. If I grab the mask and drag it to the trash can, the mask goes away but my "mask" - the area of the image that was...

Getting REALLY good selections on wildlife (birds)

I didn't think of using Vibrance. I lasso'd the two areas and did a replace color. Very easy compared to all the other stuff involved... One of these days I'll take this method over to a big, fluffy cat and see if I can get a really great selection there. Maybe replace a boring blue backdrop...

Getting REALLY good selections on wildlife (birds)

I've watched the tutorials a couple times and played along enough to figure some of WHY I'm doing what I'm doing. One BIG thing I learned is that NONE of the tools is 100% With the hair, he'd go around and get a better selection, then talk about all the areas he was going to have to go in with...

Getting REALLY good selections on wildlife (birds)

Fortunately, it doesn't happen very frequently. I have occasionally replaced an eye that squinted or replaced a droopy tail with one that has a nice arc. Simple things like that where the source and destination were all from the same shoot on the same background. But the occasional, "Well...

Getting REALLY good selections on wildlife (birds)

Thanks for all the replies and pointers... Maybe I'm looking at this wrong. If other people haven't found the Select and Mask to be the simple, automated, quick, idiot-proof way to make perfect selections, (as the demos and tutorials always make it look) maybe I'm not as bad as this as I...

Getting REALLY good selections on wildlife (birds)

Thanks for all the replies… I’ve tried a couple other birds, and those fine, white feathers by the feet and the regular feathers where there's very little area between them, kill me no matter what I do. Thanks John… I’ll go look at the tutorial… I DID find a comment somewhere about using a...

Getting REALLY good selections on wildlife (birds)

I put a reply in here yesterday, but I have NO idea where it went... Thanks for the replies. I switched to a RAW image that's somewhat similar to the one I sent. I have the same problems. I can sort-of get a selection. It creates holes in the bird, it doesn't cover the tiny feathers well, I...

Getting REALLY good selections on wildlife (birds)

I cropped off the extraneous ends to make it a bit smaller. Basic exposure adjustments and knocked down the noise a bit. It was shot as a jpeg (long, boring story). I've now gone though this at least 15 - 20 times in Select and Mask... The fine, white feathers on the left, near the birds...

Getting REALLY good selections on wildlife (birds)

In general, I can do most simple things in Photoshop. But I have trouble getting really good selections on things like bird feathers. Or fur. I had hopes that Photoshop 2021 would make it easier to get really good selections. And it may, but if so, I lack the skills… I’ve watched people make...

New Windows 17" Laptop for image processing

Since, in my experience, doing a bit of heavy lifting in Photoshop takes more resources than Lightroom, I'd ask in here... I have a capable Windows desktop for doing the heavy lifting at home. But, the domestic associate, this morning, indicated that her laptop was getting elderly (it is...
