    Solid colour, mid grey and set to Multiply mode is easiest to achieve the effect. But you can experiment with different colours and modes to get what you need.

    I used my special technique to avoid duplication and also removed the harsh shadow under chin. Did a few minor lighting adjustments as well. I hope it's OK.

    I can get a similar effect but it's easier for me to write an action for Photoshop if you wish. I had to make a new gradient to get this effect. You can then adjust the layers to suit.

    I think the balloons are an integral part of the subject so I placed a full balloon on the left, which was cut off in the original. It adds a bit of extra balance to the image IMHO.
