    Grayscale and color brightness

Getting closer. My problem is I have to learn how to do the layers like you have. In the meantime can I do it as shown below? What I don't understand is how you get the color code in the RGB info panel when I just get 135's when I adjust the lightness bar.

    Grayscale and color brightness

Thanks! My main confusion was the setting of the lightness value. You do not adjust the lightness value to the color by eye - right? So you're saying that you desaturate the old color. Then you add the new color code as a color overlay. The RGB value should be written down. Then you adjust the...

    Grayscale and color brightness

Hi - I think most of my problem is with my inability to use PS. I see the layers you have but don't know how to create those layers. While it is probably simple I never added a blank layer and painted it in. I always used a color overlay. Is the way I've been doing this wrong or just a different...

    Grayscale and color brightness

Thanks John but I think I need to do this in baby steps. I'm not able to see your layers in the original post. This is what I am starting with. I want to make the yellow clapboard brick red. So first I make the selection into a layer. Then I desaturate it. Then I change the blend mode to...

    Grayscale and color brightness

This is the image I am working on. I am coloring the body of the house Benjamin Moore Brick Red. The hexi decimal code for the color is #804D46 .I use that code in a color overlay. Here are my layers. The one discussed is the body color. I first desaturated the selection then I added the...

    Grayscale and color brightness

If I turn off the hue/saturation adjustment layer and make the selection blend mode color instead of color overlay the selection turns white.

    Grayscale and color brightness

I have a spyder calibrator so the color is pretty accurate. Also since I am entering the hexi code that should also be good. I'm not sure how to make sure the lightness is correct. I thought there was something about setting the grayscale values.

    Grayscale and color brightness

Hi. In PS CS5 I create a selection and desaturate the selection using Hue/Saturation. I then apply a color I want using the hexidecimal number. I have been adjusting the lightness level through hue/saturation by sight and it usually looks pretty good. However I need the color to look as accurate...

I must have hit something by mistake - Color Overlay

Hi I have a Color Overlay problem. When I enter the box to select the overlay color, I would see a vertical bar with all the colors, red, blue, green, yellow etc. I don't know what I did because not when I go in there this is what I see - see attachment. How can I get the vertical box back to...

    Making color appear glossy

Wow - those are some bright colors! The look I was trying to replicate used the same dark colors I was using. It was probably just a gloss paint but an oil base which gave it so much more depth. I spent a lot of time searching for the photo with no luck but I will be keeping an eye out for it in...

    Making color appear glossy

I think I will have to put this question on hold for now. A few months ago when searching on the web for house colors I stumbled upon a house similar to what I am working on with beautiful rich glossy colors. I have been searching for that house ever since with no luck. I would love to repeat...

    Making color appear glossy

It doesn't look like I am visualizing it. I think I need to saturate the colors more. If I could only change the surface.

    Making color appear glossy

That's a good question. I do not want car glossy. I think I am looking for more depth and saturation in the color. The brown in the sample above looks better.

    Making color appear glossy

I applied the paint through photoshop - the colors were different before. The surface was dull with old paint to begin with. Thanks for the info!
