    setting up new computer

at the risk of sounding critical ( not of you ) there isn't an LCD flatscreen monitor made for less than $1,300 and going to about $2,400 [ La Cie ] (These being low end prices) that are good for anything but surfing the net. The EIZO sells for $5,200 and is probably the cream of the crop...

    uninstalling fonts

New machine...Vista OS... I've got a bunch of fonts that came on the machine, that I don't want on the machine...I never knew what 'system fonts' were required and obviously I'll need to keep these in the system but I want the rest out. I have my own adobe font library ( open type ) that I pick...

Adding item to image / Deleting background items???

I don't see what you're seeing Mindbender. This appears to me to be a relatively simple 'no brainer'. \:/ An easier 'do' with cs3 yet still quite fundamental with 7. Please share...

    Having trouble making pictures pretty

If everyone could 'get it exactly right', out of the camera, then there wouldn't be a need for Photoshop. Even the great ones like Ansel Adams spent hours and sometimes days in the darkroom ( Photoshopping? ) his prints. The best you can do is to get to know your camera so that the photos you...

    Having trouble making pictures pretty

I'm going to critique this from a different angle. Taking into mind all that Gaussian said, with which I agree totally, I'm going to get into composition. It is a pleasent photo as is, but from my personal viewpoint there are a few things I would work on which I sort of mapped out in the photo I...

    the pen tool?

yes. I'd say that in this case, the pen tool will render the best results.. You'll have a hell of a time with the spokes though.. You may consider just making them. The rest is pretty cut and dry.

Blown-out highlights in silhouette shot of factory at sunset

fact of the matter is, I visit the Cambridge site religiously. I think I even posted the link on another thread. What they've done should be an inspiration to all of us who venture out, camera in hand, looking for the perfect image. The inspiration being, we can create the 'perfect' shot from...

Blown-out highlights in silhouette shot of factory at sunset

Gaussian. the site you sent this guy to deals with HDR. If he doesn't have CS2 or CS3 and can handle Camera raw files and a camera that can bracket then the info he gets there is of little value. There are thinge that can be done in CS or 7 that can enhance the photo and minimize the blown out...

    cuting out hair - nightmare!!!

zorro... this is an age old issue and "no one" really has the end-all answer. There are many techniques employed to do it and many plugins. None are foolproof and none work in all instances. You can spend many hours working on a photo and getting it 'just right', then when you apply precisely...

new user-need some basics (i.e. minumum specs for printing)

Mindbender..... I'm so freakin' stupid some times....of course it's LPI, They must have the 'D' and the 'L' too close together on my keyboard...yeah, that's it...too close together \:/

new user-need some basics (i.e. minumum specs for printing)

1200 x 1800 at 300 pixels per inch ...... divide the size by the pixels [ 1200 divided by 300 = 4" / 1800 divided by 300 = 6" ] The 300 is ppi not dpi. dpi is the screen frequency the printer will use. Most printers request the resolution to be 300 ppi or at least 2x the frequency. ( if the...

I don't believe your portable hard drive has the registry info required for PS to run on another machine. Unless you have a portable version of PS.

So far I've managed to strip it down as much as I can..( remove all the trial software it came with ). This computer isn't connected to the internet nor do I want it connected...
