    The January Free For All

Re: The January Free? For?All Nice one Nicky. I don't have enough artistic ego for a signature :P. Whatever happened to February's free for all?

Does this read as chrome? advice please.

Along with what ronmatt is saying, you can simulate a "reflection" as shown by this tutorial: http://www.idigitalemotion.com/tutorials/text2.html What's more, you can save it as a style to re-use again later on.

    from raw to new...

Hello there rui_aiya, I've had a look - I don't see a straightforward solution to this one. From what I could determine, quite a bit of manual re-working went into this - and the results are excellent. You can look for example at the white "stroke" around the body of the girl & bicycle - that...

    VALENTINE'S DAY CARDS

Quite late, but here's one I had prepared earlier :P. Mountain range and balloon thingy whipped up with Blender. Sky, bit of texturing and lettering applied with Photoshop.

3D Hi there people... need some help from experienced elders :P

Hi Joy, For more details on how to work the program, there is a wealth of information located here: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro -- you should have a look through the Interface section before getting down and dirty with the tutorials. Also, you can find the manual here...

    Application Convergence expands!

I think this will be of benefit to everybody since in the very least it'll give folks some exposure to complementary products and also provide specialised topics - and seeing that most professionals are multi-tooled as well, I figure it'll give them the chance to get more tools in their skill...

    How to Make this

Raja, that can be quite easily accomplished by creating the highlights on a separate layer and setting the layer to "Screen" - this will lighten everything underneath areas that you paint white. Blur and sharpen as you need and adjust the layer blending for intensity. If that's not quite what...

    Website

Hi Musto, Ok, to be finnicky, the site doesn't have proper cross-browser support (I'm running Firefox) - this for the scroll area on the "bio" page - works fine on IE though. The layout is good, but the pictures look a bit lifeless - I assume you evened the skin tones (whoops if I'm wrong!)...

3D Hi there people... need some help from experienced elders :P

All of the programs you mentioned are quite expensive, and if you're still on the learning curve and not studying it in school somewhere, I think it would be a bit of a waste. Why not try something like Blender 3D www.blender3d.org? It's opensource and multi-platform and has a great deal of...

    3D Blender 2.4

I've played around with it in recent times and I'd say it's a wonderful application (2.37 was felt a bit nicer to work with than the current 2.40 version, though quite a few improvements seem to have been made on the animation side of things). But then I am not an artist nor a professional CG...

    Banner needed

Ok, admittedly those last two were quite crappy, so I tried my hand at Blender some more (and I'm afraid my lack of talent extends to 3D too :P). Texturing and some post work done in Photoshop of course.

    Wishing Welles a Happy Retirement...

Best of luck with the new venture Welles. I'm sure your Photoshop skills will still come in handy - after all, writing needs publishing, publishing needs presentation and layout, and presentation and layout need Photoshop! (sorta)

Kick back, relax and enjoy it. "Sounds" like you'll still be busy (pardon the pun) though. Do continue to contribute when you get time - your input has been highly valued.

    Mega pixels for Digital Cameras

Batteries: General: http://www.livingroom.org.au/photolog/tips/digital_camera_batteries.php http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/hqguides/batteries.html Detailed info: http://www.imaging-resource.com/ACCS/BATTS/BATTS.HTM In short - Lithium ion batteries don't have the memory effect (though that does...

    M4A1 Carbine

Ok p?tr??k, it's a deal - I'll keep those IM's coming until you give in and write that tutorial! :P Of course you are correct though - observation is key - I am very often guilty of trying to "think" of how something should look, instead of using a real object as reference. Hopefully it's just...

    reflections

Ok, I played around with it a bit - once you scale it down to the size you'll probably use it at, the small displacements don't really have any impact and the reflection looks pretty much perfect. So a bit of a redundant suggestion on my part - sorry!

Coloring a Black and White photo

I call it - "Bogey after the tanning salon incident" 8} I give up... for now. [EDIT: Humphrey was getting cropped for being over 600 pixels wide]

    BW to color by LASA

This last one is superb Lasa. As for my own efforts, I've given it some thought - I think part of my problem with the Selective Color & Hue & Saturation layers were that I still applied it to the whole skin area - I should actually apply the various layers to a smaller mask within the "skin" -...

    reflections

Thanks ronmatt - look forward to seeing the tutorial - if everyone did stuff by the book there'd be no progress! The second example you've posted looks much better than the first in my opinion - the different strap and texturing does add to this. However, I still think the displacement thingy...
