    Shopping for a new PC...

    I will never be able to run any more versions of OS X, though it runs Panther now. You might as well stick with Panther. The G5 comes with Tiger installed but will run Panther - and I can network the old and new machines without any bother using Panther, wheras Apple's made changes in Tiger...

    Problem solved - I think; seems to have been a clash with Omnipage. Rebuilding Desktop tidied the links.

    I have some ps files on an external firewire disk; I can open them if I open PS7 first, but if PS is not open and I double click on them I get a quick message at the top of the screen saying "Check Plugin" and PS7 doesn't open. Any ideas? Extra note: when I checked the file list on the...

    A wealth of free fonts!

    True Type, OpenType and Type 1 - all for free - at http://www.moorstation.org/typoasis/designers/steffmann/index.htm and if you click on designers when you've finished downloading all those you fancy, you'll find a page of other designers and their fonts (some free).

    Anyone Recognise This Font?

    http://www.myfonts.com has a search facility where you can upload an image for it to identify. I think it's a custom drawn letter. And with it mentioning Cricket, it must be based on an English typeface and not a modern one at that.

    Software offers

    Got this email the other day. I've always paid full price for my software and don't need any of the stuff this lot are advertising. Question: how can they offer PS7 so cheap? Is it legal? What they offer is the software download and the key. No box no book etc.

    animated avatar size

    I thought I might try an animated avatar and played around with my cat picture in ImageReady. But the smallest (optimised) I can make it is 62K and the limit for avatars here is 10K. Is it possible to "squash" it in some way? or is it as low as it can be? Here:

    Image Size Dialogue (PS6)

    Instead of a complete reinstall just bin the preference files - that usually clears up glitches like the one you mention. The language version makes no difference.
