    ended up showing colors by that you mean colors thru the shadow right. if the background is colored decreasing the opacity will make the object translucent. the background color will show thru it. but if you are saying that the colors of the render return thats weird. it would be helpful if...

    if you want the sorcerers shadow to be transparent like what i would do is choose the image which i want to turn to shadow, go to image>adjustments>levels and darken the image completely and then change the layer opacity to get where i want. but i haven't tried this ever i just read your post...

    primarily this is done in a 3d software but it can be done in photoshop as well (if you can spend a great number of hours on it), unfortunately i dont have any idea which 3d software to use for this either illustrator would work or go in a different direction and use 3d max.

    you can use the various transform methods like distort/perspective/skew etc to arrange the paw so it looks like you want. EDIT: you said you needed help so i am assuming you have PS.

    Torn Text effect

    you can probably use puppet wrap to chang the shape of text and then use different brushes to smudge the edges, but i dont think the effect would be exactly like this one but with time you can get close enough.

    i dont know if this is also a way but desturating the texture layer would remove the colors and adding new colors would be easier. wouldnt it?

    Editing vintage or not so vintage scanned photos in PS (1)

    i edited some of my father's and grandfather's photo collection. i didnt wanted to convert them to color just adjust the colors that are already ther for that i used the curves adjustment. for some photos i used the auto calibration and for some i calibrated them my self to my liking.
