    I solved my problem by opening the files in Paint.Net, saving them as .png and then opening them in Photoshop. It seems that Photoshop isn't the best when it comes to indexed images. Thanksfor the input everybody.

    It can't be that, as the same picture but converted to rgb and saved again looks different in Windows Photo Viewer (the default program when you double click a picture in Windows). Here is the "after" image in Windows Photo Viewer...
