    Finally I got my wacom

Ok... it's been a long while since I've posted a thing... but this one caught my attention. I'm the proud father (several years, now) of a WACOM Intuous2... and I love it. It's used in different methods depending on what computer it's hooked up to. I may be one of the few people in this world...

Border or mat around a photo

There are a lot of ways to do this. This is my preference. -Create a new layer above the image. -Select All. -Edit-> Stroke. -Define your width, color (defaults to your forecolor), and location (choose INSIDE for this border). Keep the blending mode normal. -Now you'll have a...

    Glossy pictures.

try duplicating the layer that you are looking to make "glossy", run a CHROME filter (Filter->Sketch->Chrome) on it and set the layer's blend mode to SCREEN, reduce the opacity a bit and it should give you some strong highllights.

    High Resolution

First - If you can rescan, then rescan at a higher resolution (300dpi or greater, especially if you'll be resizing in PS later) Second - Determine what the OUTPUT resolution is going to be. By that I mean, what resolution is the printer going to be printing at? If the printer says he's...

    Type styles

Everyone will have their own opinions as to how things should and could be laid out... but something to keep in mind are basic design princicples. One of which is Contrast. Large heavy fonts are often complimented well by the use of small thinner fonts. Ok, vague.. here's more detail. If you...

Is it easier to design for other's rather than yourself?

worthy of printing, framing, and hanging on the lobby wall of any design studio. :D [beat dead horse] ... yeah, I find it very difficult to design for myself. Designing for clients entails having restrictions (time, budget, color, size, etc). All these elements form a goal that is easier...

    I need some creative input

Along the lines of using filters for artisitc reasons, there are a number of things I can suggest that hopefully create a spark. Maybe Render Clouds on a different layer and play around with the blending modes. Maybe a more "fixed" pattern (something like a grid or small circles or scan lines)...
