Rule of 3rds with Content Aware scale

Thanks, but I tried that already & unfortunately the grid doesn't scale when using Content Aware Scale as it does with the Crop tool.

Rule of 3rds with Content Aware scale

When using Content Aware Scale I notice that the rule of thirds guides are not visible. Is it possible to have them automatically appear as with the Crop Tool?

    History Brush question

Thanks dv8_fx. I know what you mean but... Open an image Duplicate Background layer Add and apply Adjustment layer Add blank layer Use the History Voila! It works. I don't know if it works with numerous adjustment layers and suchlike but if not then all you'd need to do would be: Select all...

    History Brush question

It does indeed! It's just the new blank layer that fixes it and with that it works on both on Adjustment layers and Blend modes. I viewed a few videos on this and not one mentioned anything about adding a new blank layer but it seemed to work for them, hence my query. However, following your...

    History Brush question

OK. Here's the scenario. Open an image Duplicate Background layer Change Blending mode of duplicated layer to Multiply Select History Brush Open History Panel and set the source for the History Brush to Duplicate Layer. With History Brush paint over the area I don't want to be affected by the...

    History Brush question

Is there somewhere a list of Adjustments/Modes that the History Brush DOESN'T work with? Perhaps I should re-phrase that. I can get the History Brush to work with say Blur but I can't get it to work with Blending modes or a various adjustment layers. Maybe I'm doing something wrong (quite...

Now that's a good idea. Thanks

    Pen tool path color

Thank you. I'd already tried un ticking the anti-alias guides and paths. I can use the pen tool in a few circumstances but in others where there the outline I'm trying to select has little contrast with the other parts of the image then I find it difficult to see the selection path. The other...

    Using adjustment layers with masks

Ah! That's the problem. The mask was not attached to the Adjustment layer and now I know why. Steps were. 1. Make selection and refine edge 2. Create mask 3. Apply adjustment layer Step 2 was my mistake. I should have left that out and just gone to step 3. Sorry, I'm a complete dunderhead...

    Using adjustment layers with masks

Hi all, I think I'm missing something obvious here but here's my problem: Lets say I have an area of a picture to which I want to apply a adjustment layer such as Hue/Saturation. I select the area and create a mask. I then apply a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. The problem is that the...

    Pen tool path color

Although I think the pen tool could be an excellent way of making selections, I find that in many situations the path color hardly shows against a midtone or gray area I want to select. Furthermore I find the tangent line makes things worse since it's the same color as the path (gray) and can...

Converting a scanned-in "analog" image back to a digital "original"

You don't mention how big the copy is but personally I would scan the copy in part by part making sure to leave an decent overlap on each of the scans. I would then take the multiple scans and stitch them together. The stitching software I use (and I've tried a few) is Microsoft ICE. It's free...

Modify a selection without moving the image

Oh what an idiot I am! I'd somehow forgotton about 'Select-Transform Selection' & the space bar. I knew it was something very basic. I think I'm going to bed now. Thanks guys

Modify a selection without moving the image

Yes I tried that and it skews the image, not the selection. Maybe I'm not explaining too well. I have an image with an oval area I want to select. Using the Elliptical Marquee tool I can get pretty close to selecting just that area - but not quite. Now I'm talking here about the shape of the...

Modify a selection without moving the image

Ah no, that's not what I mean. Let's say that I want to select an irregular oval part of my image. Suppose I use the elliptical marquee tool to get a close approximation of the area I want to select. I then want to modify/stretch/skew that selection or those marching ants so that I'm selecting...

Modify a selection without moving the image

Hi I'm sure this is so basic but I can't think how to do it. When selecting an area I would like to modify/transform/reshape just that selection (the marching ants) without moving the underlying image. How do I do that?

Disapointed with PS CS5 - flaky

Aha! I've cracked the problem with Batch crashing - it was a plugin. I don't know which which one yet but I'll gradually add them back in and find out. That just leaves me with the problem of MiniBridge which, although annoying, I guess I can do without. It's mentioned at Error: Waiting for...

Disapointed with PS CS5 - flaky

OK, Memory Diag says no problems - 4 Gb installed. Memory usage in PS has been set to 75% for a while now. I don't run Aero of any of the 'prettiness' features of Windows - it's set to 'Best Performance'. In PS I've tried enabling and disabling OpenGL. Problems persist.

Disapointed with PS CS5 - flaky

It's the way Windows 7 32 bit works I think. If you have 4 Gb of RAM installed Windows grab a gig for itself leaving 3 for other applications.
