As seen on many websites there are things done in 3d programs (often 3d studio max) that arent like an object, but quite random stuff, you know what i mean? stuff that like goes in bgs of logos etc, can anyone tell me about any free software with toots on how to acheive these kinds of effects. Thanks

perhaps you would be kind enough to supply a link to a site which has an example of the fx you are looking for. This would be a big help to better advise you of just what is done, how, and with which app.

You could probably do this kind of fx by simply using some filters, and some photo's and like, then cutting areas out and rearanging things to fit a kaotic scene, then do a duo color filter.

If you wanted to do a 3d mix into this you could always just extrude verts, edges, faces from a set of primitives, then move things around doing some extra inverted extrudes, moves, etc, then do a screen shot of your fx, and place back into PS for further cutting and pasting to go along with what I have mentioned up top.

Whole list of free apps to try this stuff with is posted in this thread below.

I don't understand why everybody wants to copy the same art over and over [confused]
I've met so many people asking this same question about these same kind of backgrounds. The "how do I make these tentacles" question is also one that keeps coming back :D

I would try a combination of a 3D program ( www.wings3d.com is free) and Photoshop.

i just love that kinda art i think it looks great, thanks for the help also.
