I agree with ArtOf abt PS actions that can save, and I would extend his warning to any home-brew program or batch file that has file modification, re-naming, or similar powers to process entire directories or groups of files. In fact, exactly this issue came up just yesterday in this forum in a different thread about automatically renaming a guy's entire collection of photos, and I suggested that the entire directory be backed up first before they turned loose their renaming program.

PS - FWIW, I mentioned the Time Machine already twice in this thread.
