Adding texture to a 3D object

Hi, I am new to this forum and I would like to thank you in advance for taking a look at this post.

I created a 3d model in Pro/E Wildfire and opened it in photoshop CS5. I am trying to add an image to the top of the object. When I go into the 3D (Materials) tab and then click load texture (after clicking the folder next to 'diffuse'), the texture that is loaded is very distorted.

How can I add an image to the top of a custom 3d object without it being distorted?

I have attached a few files to help illustrate what I am trying to accomplish and the problem.

Thank you.

Here is what you can do:
1. rotate the model so that the side you are trying to add an image to looks straight to the camera
2. paste the image on a separate layer, scale it so it fits the way you want it to be over the model
3. make sure you have "Paint on" option of the 3d scene set to Diffuse
4. go to image layer, choose Clone Stamp tool, set Sample option to Current layer, in the Clone source pallete make sure Show Overlay option is checked. Choose a big hard brash so that it cover all of your image. Position the pointer over the image and Alt click
5. Turn off image layer, go to 3d layer, choose the right place and click

If you could make your 3d model in Pro/E Wildfire so that it looks straight to the camera that would be much easier:cheesygrin:

This way in PS you could just add plane object and merge it with your model. Then move this plane object just above the model surface. Place your image onto the plane object with no distortion whatsoever.

By the way, the model you made can be done in PS with no problem. There is no need in a separate 3d application.
