Adjustment layer

What is the difference between
1. Layer -> New adjustment layer -> Levels and
2. Create a new layer and apply level corrections?

The adjustment layer allows the option to fully readjust, at any point and any number of times.

Is that not possible with a new layer?

You can adjust it again on a layer, but only from the last point of adjustment. Try it for for yourself. Add a copy and adjust the levels to make it very dark, click OK.

Now go back and try to make that layer appear as it did originally using levels.

Now try it with a levels adjustment layer.
