Appearance of gif file

I have made a gif in photoshop CC following online written instructions and a couple of YouTube videos. When I try to use the gif it appears as a file which the reader must tap to open, rather than as an image. I am wondering if this is typical of gifs created in Photoshop. The gifs that I see on the internet and in emails are always displayed as images.

Can you please explain the exact steps you used to save the GIF?

Please post the GIF if possible.

Thank you for your reply. I discovered that there was nothing wrong with my gif file, only in the way that I expected it to work. I works fine. Thanks again.
