Best tool/technique to repair this torn photo?

I've been trying to repair an old photo with a chunk torn out of it for several hours, and I've made a little progress but I just can't figure out how to fix the little girl's elbow in a way that looks natural. I didn't save an original copy, but I'm including my most recent progress as well as the earliest copy I have saved to give a better idea of how it started out. Any tips on what techniques or tools to use would be much appreciated! (I have CS5, in case that makes a difference).

Hi Beth and welcome firstly.

You are going along great, just need to keep at it really.

Try making a copy of the boys left arm elbow area then pasting over the missing girls elbow and play around there for a bit.
Or even the girls left hand where it bends towards the fingers, you will be amazed at what you can achieve:thumbsup:

I'd suggest, add a new layer, make a selection of the missing elbow area and use a very soft low opacity brush to paint it in. Sample the colors often and build it up slowly. Add a bit of noise to match the grain in the photo. I only spent a few minutes on this and wasn't going for perfection but it should give you the general idea.

elbow.jpg i used the hand to make another elbow via warp and soft blending on a new layer.

I did this exactly as Hawkeye explained except I painted the texture and did not use a noise filter......
