branding effect

Hey I was wondering if any one knows a good method of giving text a branded or burnt in look. :}

Gotta hand it to you Mark, I mean do you go out of your way for people or what! There's something slightly bizarre about that pic of the toast.

burnt toast

Did you just use the burn toal to make that toast look burnt?

*grins* Actually yinko, I think that's an actual picture of toast with letters burned into it. What I would do is put your text on a layer above the toast and play with text color and blend modes.

this might help you to come up with some ideas

I found these nifty brushes at:
http://www.creativemac.com/2002/10_oct/features/download4021025.htm

and used the chalk brushes as they leave "spaces" and look more like burned toast effects. I then used Mark's burned toast pic and picked up the colors on it to use as colour selections for the burns and intersperced them. I also used another layer for the brushing. It was a 5 min job but it's a start for you perhaps?
