Hi guys, I'd like to ask for your advice. I do internet graphics, I don't know much about typography. I'm in need of business cards, but since I wasn't sure by the exact dimensions of bleeds and safe print area, I downloaded a template from the business cards maker's website (link to a zipped psd: tinyurl.com/6g9kmcc), which has dimensions of 8,99 x 5,21 cm (3,54 x 2,05 in). Isn't it strange that the width isn't even the full 9 cm (3,542 in) which is the standard widtz of european business cards, not to mention bleeds? I'm probably overlooking something because I don't believe they'd make a mistake like that. Could someone please clarify it for me? Thanks in advance.

2 x 3.5 inches is standard here in the states. The extra size would account for cuts, slightly off with the height being .05, the width .04, but prob'ly no big deal. It would be worthwhile to check out the links noted above.

When I've had cards made by americasprinter.com, I believe they specified 2.1 X 3.6 inches. They also have templates.

Perhaps you should consider availing of the services of a commercial printer instead to save you the trouble of making your own and potentially making a mistake? There are many different pros to printing with a professional, not least of which is the assurance that your cards will get to you on time and at a high quality.
