Change the background color of an image

I'm fairly inexperienced with Photoshop. Here's what I want to do: Change the background of the right image to look like the one on the left.

Picture2.pngPicture1.png

The one on the right was achieved through using the image tools in PowerPoint. I've played around in Photoshop with the color balance and color replacement to no luck.

Please direct me to a tutorial or point me to the right tools.

Thanks,

Slim

You can use 'Replace Color' under Image-> Adjustments for this.

* Open the image in Ps
* Image -> Replace Color
* Using the dropper provided, click on the color you want to replace.
* Use the sliders provided to select the new color.
* You can use the fuzziness slider to change the area covered by the selection.

Any queries.. feel free to ask

Chitkaran,

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping it would work as planned but here's what I'm getting:

Am I doing something wrong?

Click on 'Selection' instead of 'Image' just above the adjustment sliders..

here's how it should look .... I used the blue color file for this.. and changed it to black.
