had a play with the tutorial ... 1st image is as per the tutorial .. with the second image I wanted to 'dirty it up a bit' (clouds .. using dark brown and dark green, then dropped opactity to 50% and fill to 40% and then overlay ... there's probably a better way to do it .. but I think it removed the clean look) .. third image was just an experiment with a different font ..
btw .. I was going to post this in digitalmistake's 'need chiseled letters' thread but the thread doesn't have a reply button [confused] :( ... \:/ ...

? To my eyes, the letters appear more raised than chisled. I wouldn't think the letters would have the same texture once they are, errr, chisled.

Doc .. thanks for comment .... I guess mines the chiseled out (of rock) effect :-) .. anyhow I thought it was a good tutorial ... learnt stuff from it (an I need alot of 'learning' ..? ?:bustagut: :bustagut: .. )
.. still no reply button? in digitalmistake's 'need chiseled letters' thread ... anyone know why??

Hey, great 1st job. If you want the chiseled letters to look 'dirty', then I suggest using some textures, grunge brushed, or some stock pics. Or maybe with the brush tool...
The last pic looks raised because the highlights and shadows are too harsh; they don't match the bg. Anyways, good try - keep it up. :)
Oh, and the only reason I can think there wouldn't be a reply button in that thread is because Mark probably locked it. Maybe.

These images posted just seem wrong to me Chiseled should look like the text is chiseled out of the stone (or whatever) these look like 'raised' letters. \:/

Absolutely Ron, I was thinking that I was having a Getsalt moment and decided to pass on comment. What, in your mind, turns the table? I know if you play with lighting direction, it can change perspective, but again, I'm not sure if it's just a personal perspective.

"Oh, and the only reason I can think there wouldn't be a reply button in that thread is because Mark probably locked it. Maybe." You're correct in that assumption Patrick. I forgot to lock that board after the last contest. That's generally a "no reply" zone. ;)

The element in namvet's post that solidifies the 'raised' or 'lowered' question, is the obvious lighting coming from topleft in all but the first image, and the shadows being cast by the 'raissed' letters as well. That first one could go either way. :B
