I'm working on an image and for some reason when i try to move the top layer, it always switches to the bottom layer, and then gives me a dialog box that says I can't move to background layer because it is locked(obviously). So is there anyone out there who knows why this is happening?? Any help appreciated.

Sounds like your Move tool has Auto Select turned on.
Should be across the top, near the left.

just make sure you change the name of the BG layer to be able to move it.

and as Stroker said that option maybe checked.

Another way to move elements without going to thier layers is to hold down ctrl-command key while using the moce tool to auto select the layers more than 50% opaque.

I did have the auto select option on, and couldn't move the layer because it was less than 50%.Thanks for the information!
