File size smaller than expected with CS5

Hello all,
I'll start off by saying I am extremely unfamiliar with CS5 or PS in general so this is probably an easy fix. I am working with JPEGs in CS5 on a Mac and when I save an image the file size is much smaller ~1.3 MB than when editing with Nikon's Capture NX (~5.5 MB). What could I be doing wrong? Cropping seems to be the main factor in how quickly it drops but I tried a even larger crop in Capture NX 2 and still got a larger file size.

Ok, I'm as dumb as I thought. Had the resolution set at 300 pix/inch but is there a way to always use the optimal pixels/inch? Please explain how this works out for me? Thank you.

You must have saved the image at a lower resolution (set at medium 6 most probably.) Choose a higher setting in the save as jpg window.
