Having trouble with INVERSE selection...

Dear Folks,

I must be missing something regarding how to invert (inverse) a selection. Here is what I did:

*Selection made via a channel
*With the selection still visible, I created a hue/saturation adjustment layer. This then only changed only the the image area that was selected, as was expected.
*I next chose the "inverse" command under "select"

I went back to the hue/saturation adjustment but the same part of the image as before was effected, same as prior to my "inverse" command. I DID observe that the selection had changed when I chose "inverse," but the adjustment did not effect the new "inverse" part of the image. I'm not sure what I am missing.

My sincere thanks to all who respond.

Dave

when you added an adjustment layer to a selection you masked out the rest of the layer to adjust that you need to invert your layer mask on the adjustment layer to make changes visible. if you need to change both selections then make your selection add the adjustment layer

then invert your selection and add another adjustment layer then tweak the colors.

Either invert your selection before making the adjustment layer, or

make the selection add the adjustment layer and then invert the mask (ctrl+I).

Hi, are you following a tutorial? If so, can you link us to it?

Lynda.com, "Photoshop CS6 Selections and Layer Masking Workshop". I'm using my own photos after I "get" the concept. I do believe I now understand that part of the lesson. Now I have to practice enough so it becomes cerebral muscle memory before it falls through the many cracks up there.

Thanks to all.

Dave
