My first append.
I have Photoshop 7.0.
When I wish to drawer a Rectangular Marquee shape (square or rectangular) the correct shape is shown in outline but the selection changes to an elipical marquee tool shape.

If I right click the Marquee tool I can select any of the 4 marquee options (square, eliptical, single row and vertical column).
I can not draw a square or rectangular shape without it changing to eliptical or circular.
The answer must be very simple.
Please help am so frustrated.

I'm no expert either, but it sounds like you might have a high, preset feather value on for the marquee tool.

I would tend to agree. Check the feather.
