and this is my first question, that has me "stumped" (if that's the word), I just haven't been able to achieve this..

I'm working with two images, one that it is just a green background, and a portrait of my daughter...first I bring the green background and then I "move" on top of the green background the portrait of my kid...

Here is the "problem" : I want to rotate the kid image a little bit, and want the corners of this image out, over the green background image and I can't...the corners of the top image get "blunted" in the green background...

How can I do it? I'm using Photoshop CS5...

Change canvas size to accommodate the extrusion of the corners of the image of girl
 
Remove your background and save as a .png there will be no white in the background would look much better
 
Thanks IDad, but I want to keep the green "background"(without the white would be nice), saving it as .png did not get rid of the white..

I posted a quick reply earlier, but I don't see it...IDad, I did what you told me and saving it as .png did not do anything for the white extra canvas I put to the green background image. I don't want to get rid of the green "background", I think it is part of the effect I had in mind...

Any other suggestions?

With CS5 you might want to try playing with Content aware fill....thats the same kind of image used in some of the tuts...I will have to play a

bit...And I did really quick.....but working with the original layers, that will just be a couple more clicks. I would finish this up with a bit of cloning.....AND a great excuse to play around learning CS5 :rocker:

But IDad helped me do the effect I wanted, by adding canvas to my "background" image which is just a green image...

Now the only thing left is to get rid of the white frame, (which came about when I added some canvas to that green background) but keeping the rotated image with the green background, I doubt I will be able to get rid of the white with content aware...

Hi Carlos, you said you deleted the white BG? Are you certain? When you save it for ping, don't flatten the document first or it will put the white BG back in. Just leave the layers and transparency and save as png. If that doesn't solve your problem, come back. Sorry for the inconvenience. If we were right there with you, it's get done a bit faster, lol. If it doesn't work, be sure to describe what you are doing to save it. Thanks.

I see the problem. I think. Have you already closed out the file? If it's still open you can go back into the history and up to where you increased canvas size. It's a pain to redo the work, but it's the best solution. Unlock your background layer by double clicking it and that will allow your new BG to be transparent, no lousy white!

If you already closed the doc and will be reopening it, you'll need to delete the white using a selection tool. Quick select or magic wand should work since you have clean edges. Once you do that, go to select>refine edge. Choose black background to view it, and look for white halos around your image. If you have these, then choose to tighten the edges, one pixel at a time until you can see that you've eliminated the white. You could even do this simply by going to select>modify>contract. Only diff is the BG which you could create by making a BG layer of black below all other layers. Just be sure you have no locked layer. You can see the lock symbol on background layers. Either click the lock at the top of panel, or double click the layer as said above. Good luck with this. Come back and let us know.

Open your image and right-click the layer palette bottom layer and select remove background then go to your image with your marquee tool or quick selection or your pen tool, If you're printing this use the pen tool. Select the area of white and delete it you should see the frame or grid of your background workspace then save it as a PNG and your Done

I keep referring to background with quotation marks because once I created it I changed it's name to Layer 0 and it has no lock, and the image of my kid is Layer 1...there is no background layer to be unlocked.
The increased canvas is transparent already, and it doesn't disappear when I save it as a .png file (without flattening)....
If I crop that area I return to my initial problem...so what can I do?
 
That is strange look at your savings preferences make sure it's saving with a transparent background

Hi Carlos,

Do you have a result that looks like this? This is a screenshot, hence the slender black border. The background/canvas is transparent here, and if I save this image as a PNG, the background will remain transparent.

whatever he meant by crop "that area".... which he was referring to in just approved posts 8 amd 9 above.

I have that result, is that what is meant by IDad and ibclare? For some reason I thought of that transparent area "disappearing"...

@dv8_fx... what I mean is that if I crop, you know using the cropping tool, that white area that appeared when I added canvas space (instructed by IDad), I get back to my original problem, which is my kid image corners don't "extrude" past the solid green image (background, Layer 0).
