How can i replicate this design

Hello, guys Am totally new to photoshop, and was requesting help with replicating the design in the attached imaged onto another word.
In other words how can i create the white linnings on the words at the edge of the letters. Thanks

What IamSam suggested is a great method and is the proper way to achieve the effect you are looking for. However, if you are short of time you could maybe use Layer styles in the following manner and get a kind of highlighting on text and objects as shown.
