how do you put a gradient on text ?

Can someone show/tell me how to put a gradient on face of text ?

i tried and ended up doing alot of copy paste to look like crap. I want the face of each letter to have a solid color on the front fading to transport in the middle of each letter.

Do i select the face of each letter one at a time or the whole word?

This greatly depends on how you have your layers set up with the 3D effect. I personally would select one letter at a time, add the inner glow, then duplicate the layer style for each subsequent letter.
