How to achieve this color effect

The 'edited photo' is much darker overall so I used the 2nd entry with curves adjustment layers to match the colour, saturation and lightness of the sample. Each adjustment was selectively applied by filling the mask with black and painting, at a low opacity, with a while coloured brush.
