How to create an effect like this...

Hello all,

I'm sure this is relatively easy to do, but I just can't seem to get it.

How can I create an effect like in the below image, where there is a blue color box over the image with transparency and with text in it? I'm thinking a masking layer, but am having trouble getting it done.

Any help would be appreciated..... CS 5.1

Just make a new layer over the original use the rectangular marquee tool make a selection on the bottom half of the new layer fill with bucket tool with colour of choice change layer style to screen alter opacity if you wish, then type in your text on that layer then merge and save.

you might also want to play with the blend mode of the color layer just to see what it does, like overlay. Might require changing the color of the layer because of what the blending mode does, but sometimes you can get a nice effect.
