Identify the wash/effects between two images

Hi

I'm used to using Photoshop but have a terrible eye for this sort of thing. Got two images. One is an original that I've found on the web and one is a colour washed version in lower fidelity. I like the washed version as it invokes feelings of an era and I'm trying to do something similar for a website I'm redesigning - it'd fit the design ethos nicely (washing a larger clouds pic without a plane). Can anyone tell me what they think has been done to turn image 1

into image 2?

For bonus points, can anyone tell me how I might be able to turn a generic pic into pic 2 (as I can see image 1 is processed already).

Any help would be really appreciated

looks to me like its just a yellow color has been added to it.
using curves and just edit/play with each channel blue channel will get you the yellow effect

Thanks. So far, I've played with it, got it yellowed and grained it, bit of Diffuse and mucked with the Hue & sat. Think I've got it sorted. Thanks for the advice!

There's many different ways to get the effect of photo 2 but the easiest, and what look like was done is a warming photo filter.

So many ways to do something in Photoshop. Both ideas are good. I took it into PS and applied a warming filter (#85) with a high density (65), then did a hue/saturation layer adjustment to yellow. And darkened it a bit with the sliders, lightness and saturation.

As for how would you take an original photo, all you need to do is desaturate it, then do another hue sat adj and check colorize and play with your sliders.

Have to say also that image #1 looks like the corrected version to me and #2 was the original. It appears to me that maybe auto color was ran to get rid of the yellow tint. It also looks like a dust and scratches filter was ran to decrease the noise and get rid of some of the specks. I dunno, just my thoughts.
