Quite the opposite, it's bulging out. Easily done with 'liquify'. The secret is to trick the eye with shadows. Use the sphere for the shadow by copying it, put the layer behind the orig, make it black, enlarge it some and add a gaussian blur. The perception is that the grid is tapering 'in' because that's what it should be doing.
