Hi PSG'ers, happy new year to everyone. Started working on a new website and came up with this header image. Learned about the Ground-Plane Shadow Catcher. What do you all think?

Its a cool design but maybe take the bulge out as it makes it a bit hard to read
Happy new year to you tooooooooo

Do you mean the bulge from the shadow underneath the text? Or from the outer glow? This file only has 2 layers, but the 3D layer has all kinds of different stuff in it; spot and point lights, layer effects, boy can I get carried away.

It is now 01:18 , but about the header, I don't like the way the reflection is cut off at the left of the image, and the 3d effects have merged the front face with some of the shadows, or that is what it looks like.

Happy new year!

Yep Spruce has pretty much answered the question the way the arc of the text goes merges into the extruded nurbs I dont know what 3d program your using but you can duplicate the text and on the 2nd copy put a fillet on it with a contrasting colour.
Kind of like my sig pic but more subtle.

This just looks wrong to me, nothing matches and there is no flow to it, it is very difficult to read and sort from the poor colour choices within, it looks muddy and washed out and it's not even centred?
Sorry mate, but thats how i see it.

Oh and tip if you want a reflection you will need a reflective surface for it to come off And just had a play with it and you really are not going to get best results for 3d in that font you may want to try faux 3d

I can't use a faux font type here Hoogle as Ps doesn't allow it for 3d text. Everyone's comments are duly noted though.

These might give you a idea on 3d text styles/tuts to help you NOT all are advanced TEXT TUTS

I sure like the Steam Powered Treatment tutorial on that website Paul, damn shame that I don't have Cinema 4d though. Of course I'll think of a way around that. Thanks brother man, very nice site.

What I'm really going for here is text that seems to be from ages gone by, thousands of years B.C. even. I though I was on the right track with the 3D text and all, but the website it's going to go on is anything but futuristic. This is what I hate about typography. I know what I want to do, but finding a font that lends itself to my so-called vision is mind-wrenching.

Alright, put something else together here. Made it more readable, changed the colors, used the abovementioned font. Not to flashy but detailed enough to hold some kind of interest. Whether its favorable interest or not remains to be seen.

Oh I was just playing around based on your original idea lol
but just so you can see what I came up with I used the font IMPACT as it is nice and bold used a rock like texture used a dark reflective floor in the scene with no background so it fades to black. Used a soft box on low settings above the text used a straight light behind the text so it looks back lit and causes the light reflection on the floor and then used an area light on low settings to light up the front. I also tried a few displacement techniques to deform the text to make them more rock like but ultimately I like clean designs and this could be to clean and modern for your needs wothout knowing the website hard to go of a guess.

Yeah ok, that's cool:-) I'm doing a website on some of the lesser known civilizations. I thought about Mayans, Inca's and Aztec's but the truth is that if you type in those words into any search engine, millions of hits are going to come up. Redundancy anyone? I try to be as original as possible. I wonder about your image iHoogle. Take the fading blur and turn it into light rays behind the 3D image? Might be difficult though; so far as I know layer masks don't work well with 3D.

nice try but i have some comments:
1.as the previous comments said, there is something wrong with extruding the 3D text..the first word is hard to read...and the last characters of the second word too.
2.i think the pink light would be better if you changed the color.
3.the text should be aligned to ceter.
4.if you added some gloss to the text or the reflection t maybe better ;)
