Infra-Red Photography of Forest Fires

For anyone interested in photography, there's an article in today's NY Times about forest fires, accompanied by infra-red photos by James Balog. The infra-red cuts through the smoke and renders heat as white. I think these photos are very striking. Here's the link:

Beautiful, intriguing, but almost sad in a way. Despite the fact that wildfire has been ravaging this planet forever, I still hate to see the destruction of forested areas, more so when the loss of human life is involved.
