I print for quite a few high-end photographers. One of them, M.K. Lynde, brought in this image. It's very interesting so I thought I'd share it (she gave me permission to post it) but didn't want me to say right away how it was created. She is willing to let me post the steps used to create it later.

This has worked well always been interested in doing this myself but can never get a good picture to do it with.

That is a cool image; took me a minute to see. That is very generous of her to share not only the picture but her method. If she doesn't visit to see the responses, tell her thank you!

Any idea how to create it? I'll be posting the original working file soon so you can experiment with it. After that, if no one can duplicate the effect, I'll post instructions. All the best.

Well to me it is just a variation of the little planet tutorial taking a landscape and morphing it into a planet shape.

It is a variation on this imo

You're welcome to give it a try. I posted the working file in another post but here it is again.
