I have a very basic question that I struggle with. When i need to grab an object (or few of them) i always go to the layer. Is there any easier way because after a while (when i have a lot of layers) it's getting very confusing and slow.

Also, when i design a website in photoshop should i make each object in a new layer?

Any help will be appreciated!

welcome, Cornelia, you have a nice name.

Maybe you already know by now:
- for auto selecting layers when you click on the image check the "Auto select" and layer or group next to it;
- everything you do is better to be layered as you can easily modify or delete unwanted items later, if you change your mind.

Thank you! Thats very kind of you:) I did as you said and it worked:) Although that works if I have just one object in the layer, if I have many it highlights all of them, any suggestion how to grab them individually (without going to layer tab)?

next to autoselect you can choose layer or group choose layer.

If you have 2 objects on 1 layer and you try to move that 1 object the other will automatically move too because you're actually moving the layer not the object
so its best always to use for every object a new layer,
however it is not impossible, it just requires the skills to use contentaware fill after you moved your object from a complex background.. wich is something I still haven't used yet

If it's an object on plain white background you can simply select magic wand and click on the object you want to move then right click and choose layer via cut, it will place it for you on a new layer
go back to the previous layer you'll see that you cutted out your object now just refill it with paint bucket tool

If it gets too much you can group your layers it's right next to 'new layer' button

hope this helped a little..

Thanks! I am used to illustrator where you just click and move and find it difficult in photoshop, i guess theres no way to do it as simple as in illustrator. Thanks for all your help:)

yes, when you have two objects on one layer, if they are not overlaped, you can make a selection with the polygonal, after that CTRL-X and CTRL-V. This will make a new layer with what you have cut.
