Mac Polygonal Lasso Tool Problem- weird boxes

Can anyone tell me how to fix this??? When I make any selected area with the poly lasso tool and complete the shape, it ends up with a bunch of weird boxes in the shape. I'm not that new to Photoshop, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to fix this. Any ideas?

Here's a screenshot... The triangle is what I selected, and that box comes up and screws up my selection.

Try this right quick.....

Open your Poly L Tool, go to the TOOL PRESETS > CLICK GEAR ICON > RESET TOOL

If that does not work just try resetting your preferences. It cures a lot of strange behavior in Photoshop.

Command + Option + Shift , then click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"

Nope I've tried both of those and it still makes weird boxes. Anything else I could do?
