Mac procedure question

I was playing around with PS in the Apple store over the weekend and noticed one of the differences in Photoshop on a Mac and PC. On a PC you right click on a tool in the tool palette to get the other choices. You can't do that with a Mac one button mouse. How do you get the other tool choices on a Mac? \:]

if you want options: option(apple) click
if you want something else: alt(ernative) click

don't double click though on the workspace to open a new doc as it'll send ps to finder.
apart from that, it's as good as identical.

As far as smooth talking sales guys, I was already sold, my friend. I've been a Mac user since 1985 with a SE/30 (and many upgrades until about 1998). Then I switched to PC's as I got tired of all the apps, games and hardware PC users had that were not offered to Mac users. Well, long story short, I'm going back to Mac in a couple of months. Should never have left. Switching back, however, is going to be expensive as none of the PC stuff is going to work with a Mac. That means, besides the CPU and monitor, I will need a new printer, scanner, all that software etc. etc. etc. I'm trying to get the government to declare my bank account as a national disaster. 8} . . :bustagut:
 
Mac/ PC

I have both platforms. Mac G5, OSX Panther and PC WinXP pro. As a designer for print, I find the Mac preferable to the PC. (it's mostly a font issue) plus, most all pre-press is Mac. For web design, I prefer the PC. as
noted, there is more available for the PC. I have Adobe CS2 on both machines. It took awhile, but I was forced to work with the keyboard commands, which are virtually the same for both platforms, I've discovered that if you learn these, it doesn't matter which one you're working on. I've heard that Mac is coming out with a R-Click mouse.
I don't find either platform to be any better or faster than the other. It's all a myth. It's a 'red wine v. white wine' thing. or 'BMW is better than Lexus'.
Who really knows which is best and who really cares. It's what You can do with it that counts. If you're good, then an IBM386 with Windows95 and Photoshop 4, is good enough
 
I know OS9 and OSX.

I would wait for the Intel macs that will come out.
Simple calculation tells that the G5 was an intermediate step and will not be supported for years to come.

My printer, scanner, external HDD and external DVDwriter work on pc and mac.

What I was referring to when writing smoothtalk was the typical vocabualry of the vendors (superior, outperform, level3cache,...) which has nothing to do with the machine they sell. Mac is top quality, no doubt about that, but I just can't stand those illusion-creators. You buy a machine to work with, you're not introduced to the dreamlover of a lifetime.

(I can't get sentimenal over a car or a refrigerator either)

I have nothing against any machine as long as it s a benefit and not a hazard. (Deckard syndrome)
 
Hey Lee. Personally I use Intellimouse opticals with all my Macs. While the Microsoft drivers are very good, there's USB Overdrive which is a commercial driver for any input device you can imagine. The extra options available in USB Overdrive make it preferable for my use.

Oh the 'right click' is Control click on a Mac, not Option click. I'm a contextual menu junkie and would be lost without multi-button mice.

I thought about waiting for the Intel Macs to come out, too. Then I thought about all the other roll-outs I have seen in my computer lifetime. Most are late and some never happen (like Jobs saying Macs will have a 3.0 processor within a year - and that was two years ago.

For me, I think the reality is that Jobs probably will have the G5 series converted to Intel two years from now as planned. Unfortunately, all software mfg's are going to have to follow suit. Most will have their software converted to intel processors but with bugs. That will take more time to work out. I feel by the time Apple is fully converted and all current software suppliers are pretty much bug free it will be three years (at least). By that time I will probably be ready to update anyway.

So, with my current monitor that has seen better days and a printer that now will only print text (no photos) it's as good a time as any to convert.

BTW - I am accepting donations from those who take pity on an old man who must endure yet another financial hardship in his lifetime. Remember, it's the thought that counts so no "contribution" is too small. My operator is standing by, CALL NOW

Maybe I've misread, or am missing something (very likely [confused] ), but there's a little triangle in the corner of each tool button, when you click on that the flyout for the other tools appears.

Edit...Actually I'm wrong, that's CorelDraw. PS is even easier, just keep the button pressed for half a second on the currently active tool and the flyout appears.
