I want to pose a question about these images \:/ Have I gone to far with 'scanner' or should I have stopped with 'scanner 2'? I refer to the amount of highlighting

I wouldn't go as far as saying you've "gone too far", but I do prefer the scanner2 render. Maybe it's that it is more subtle in terms of highlight. Scanner seems to be trying to prove a light source, whereas the other lets the object itself, answer the question.

The piece is very cool. Along with your attention to textures, it's got your signature sense of symmetrics going. Always get a real kick out of your work, Ron. :}

THAT DOES IT!!

As soon as I got some money I'm going to get z-brush!

:D

I like the second better. I don't think you have gone too far at all.

Moth, good to see you're still with us. I'm going to be posting quite a bit in the near future.
SHOCK and AWE........By the way, this has no ZBrush elements in it. All PS7. I hardly even open Z anymore. I've learned so much that I want to share. I'm working on some killer tutorials which will be hosted in a sub domain on another forum. they'll be on 'thinking out of the box' when working in Photoshop. They won't have any step, by step instructions like, 'ctrl-shift-d' or making layer sets or any other techy stuff. Just how to think Photoshop and discover it's possibilities. How to make styles and contours and brushes which will allow you to do what I do. As I mentioned when I joined this forum, I don't do things the way most people do. I'm going to share 'how'. By the way, you can demo 'Z'. and here's a tip...If you use it for textures, like I do, you can get around the 'no save thing' simply by working on a large canvas and pressing 'print screen' then you can paste into PS. Don't tell anyone I told you.

I'd put the tutes on this forum, I still feel a kinship toward it, but I'm not sure what's going on with it

ronmatt ... I always enjoy your work .. and have saved some for my future reference ... am really not qualified to say which is best ... still have soo much to learn :)

... I can understand that ... this was the first forum I ever posted on and it is the reason I persevered with Photoshop (I even remember my first question [4 years ago] ... "how do I make gold?" ... yep, I couldn't understand the color picker!!!! ... I was soooo dumb! [shhh] ...) ... but the folk here helped me, and were very patient and gracious .. and I came to love and enjoy Photoshop .. and so I too feel an affinity with this board and am really hoping that the keeper will be able to give an update on the the future of the board

Alistair, you got me there buddy. the main drawback to doing everything in PS. WYSIWYG. There ain't none. Hopefully, someday the people at Adobe will realize that PS is more than an image editor and start adding some 3d features :righton:

dv8_fx..Thanks for the generous compliment.

That's why I was totally teasing you ;)

Photoshop being the owner of Macromedia, will definately give photoshop some flash elements in the future and hopefully also give it some more 3d elements.
