Nasty halo after filling

This may seem a silly problem to others but I've been trying to figure out how to fix it for a while now. I'm tired of just brushing over the left over part after filling. Heres an example of what im talking about.halo.jpg

If you look closely, theres a white line edge where I filled the circle. How do I get rid of that when I fill so I dont have to brush over it? I tried the refine edge (Feather, expand) etc but I cant get the setting right for some reason! This is problematic when I fill in "anime hair"
Please help!

In the left example, how are you creating the circle?

How did you create the the example on the right? Seems like you figured it out!

Oh no I didn't figure it out.
On the first circle, I used the ellipse tool, stroke the line, and then FILLED inside the circle. Thats how the white halo was created inside.
On the second circle, I just... brushed over the white halo with my brush to make it go away.
I don't wanna keep brushing; it takes a lot of time and effort to fix the "fill problem"
If I can just straight up "fill" things without leaving that nasty halo... I will be happy. xD
 
Ok, try not stroking the selection you make with the Elliptical Marquee Tool, just fill the selection.

If you must stroke the selection, choose center or inside.
 
Uhm, you see that really doesn't solve my problem, because when I draw something and fill it, regardless of the shape, it leaves that white edged halo.

For an instance, take a look at her hair near her chest. See the white line around the edge where I filled it? It separates the edges of her hair from the black fill. This is driving me crazy... there MUST be a setting to fix this....
I tried using the magic wand tool then refine edges before filling inside the trace, but I cant get the setting right.
 
What tool are you using to select the hair?

If it's the pen tool, are you saving your paths?
 
I use the magic tool to select the area BETWEEN the hair edges. And then I fill it with the hair color, and thats when the white halo edges appear. I also tried filling it without using the magic wand tool and just straight up fill it (though Im sacrificing my main trace layer when I do that), but the white edges are still there.

The entire drawing(trace) is made from the pen tool (stroked), since I traced it from a traditional drawing from a scan. I didn't save the path :l

Can you upload the psd file of this example? Or provide a larger screenshot of the area your trying to fill?
 
Is this from a scan of the drawing? Usually, the line drawings may have unnoticeable light light gray remnants . Which is why you have to make sure the line drawing is ALL black.

One way to check is to add a layer filled with black below the drawing layer .

And color filling should be done on separate layers.
 
If it's a scan, adjust the brightness/contrast to get the blackest black and whitest white before you convert it to a line drawing layer......
 
Ohhhhhh..... you traced it with pen tool.

Regardlless... make sure the drawing is at it's blackest.
 
dv8, she scanned the image and then outlined the scan with the Pen Tool.

Let's concentrate on just one strand of hair.

Use your Pen Tool to close the areas I have circled in red. You might do this on a separate layer and then merge the two.

No this is NOT from the scan, I retraced the scan with a pen tool and then stroke it in another layer.

Yes, I do coloring in a separate layer, hence the magic tool to select the hair first and then filling it in in a new layer. Thats why Im asking is IF THERES ANY WAY to adjust the magic tool/select tool setting to widen the area a little bit more without compromising the color when I fill, to cover the white halo too.

You're spot on about the light gray color around the "stroke" but I can't do anything about it when I use brush strokes; if I make it ALL black (pencil tool), the drawing will look crappy and pixelated.

Make a selection of just that strand/bunch of hair.

Go to SELECT > MODIFY > EXPAND and expand by 1 pixel hit OK, fill the selection with black let me know what you get!

(I can't show you images or test the technique because I just have your screenshot)
 
I don't mean to use the pencil tool. Just making sure the line drawing is at its darkest.

But seeing your zoomed up pen tool line stroke, are you using the default black?
