No high quality gifs!

I've been a regular Photoshop user and I frequently used to export (Save for web & Devices) the animated gifs I used to create. The quality was always excellent and no negatives.

But for about 4 days, I started experiencing a really annoying issue. The gifs I export using Save for web & Devices option (like I usually did), never have the quality anymore. I see the exported animated gif like it's otimized even though I click original tab. No idea why, and when I click Save for web & Devices, in the new window it shows optimizedtab as default too. So for the original quality, I click original and the preview shows good quality. But the exported file shows bad quality as if I chose the optimized option.

Please help me fix this issue, to all dear gurus!
I'd be very much grateful.

Also I'm using Photoshop CS3 extended. I tried saving using cs4 but had this same issue.

I tried uninstalling the whole windows and then reinstalled it. I then installed Photoshop cs3 and the issue still existed. Please help!

A GIF file uses indexed color, which means it can only display pixels of up to 256 different colors, total. This set of colors is called the "color palette" for that image. If an image that you're about to save as a GIF has a lot of color complexity (much greater than 256 different colors can represent), then all the colors must be quantized into 256. A technique called "Dithering" can be employed where two colors on opposite sides of the target color are placed next to one another to make the image appear visually better. The quantization, even with Dithering, can cause the appearance of additional "noise" in the image. It can get to where it looks pretty bad - or not - depending on the original image content.
This is simply a limitation of the (ancient) GIF format.
You can use the Optimized view in Photoshop's Save For Web and Devices dialog to preview what the GIF will look like when saved, while changing the various settings. You can often find a combination of settings that will produce a visually acceptable result. But if the quality still just isn't good enough, and for animation with greater complexity, you could try using something like Flash and/or video formats.

Well, that must be right. I previously saved gifs with even more colors than the gif I just showed and I had the original saved without any issues. But after I experienced this issue on, I couldn't save any more quality gifs. Well, I tried this: To test, I took the psd file of that gif (which I previously exported and got best result) and then I saved it again to see if it was the color issue. But this file too isn't giving quality gif even though I did it before perfectly.
